Fair Accurate Documented

Why Hyperion

Built on four commitments.

Our name comes from the Titan of light — and our logo, an erdtree before the moon, is a reminder of what we do: guide policyholders through the dark. These principles, in order, govern every claim we touch.

01

Transparency

You see what we see. Every estimate, photo, and policy citation is shared openly — no black boxes, no surprises.

02

Communication

Claims stall in silence. We keep you informed at every milestone and answer when you call — plain language, not jargon.

03

Integrity

We pursue an accurate, defensible result — honestly and ethically. Every file is documented to the standard it should be, whatever the assignment.

04

Work Ethic

We outwork the file. Thorough inspections, complete documentation, and relentless follow-through until you're made whole.

What We Do

Two services. One mission — your recovery.

Public Adjusting

We represent you — the policyholder — not the insurer. From first notice of loss through final settlement, we inspect, document, value, and negotiate your property claim so it's paid fully and fairly.

Insurance Appraisal

When the amount of a loss is in dispute, the appraisal clause resolves it. Retained by policyholders and insurance carriers alike, we serve as a party-appointed appraiser or a strictly neutral umpire — bringing credentialed, impartial valuation that settles disputes without litigation.

About Us

The Titan of light — clarity when a claim turns dark.

Hyperion Claims Group is a Baltimore City–based firm of public adjusters and insurance appraisers. We exist for one reason: to make sure every claim is valued fairly and accurately — no matter which side of the table we're retained on.

In Greek myth, Hyperion is the Titan of heavenly light — father of the sun, the moon, and the dawn. Our logo, an erdtree standing before the moon, carries that same idea: a guiding light rooted in something steadfast. An insurance claim, at its worst, feels like being lost in the dark. Our job is to be the light that guides you out of it.

Most people only file a major property claim once or twice in a lifetime. The insurance company handles thousands every month, with adjusters, engineers, and attorneys on staff. As public adjusters, we bring that same level of expertise to the policyholder.

That's our public-adjusting role. We're also retained by both policyholders and insurance carriers as appraisers and umpires — and as an umpire, we answer to nothing but the evidence. Whatever the assignment, the standard never changes: do what's right, and arrive at an accurate, defensible result.

Our mission, in order

  • Transparency — you always know where your claim stands and why.
  • Communication — clear, prompt, and in plain language.
  • Integrity — honest advocacy and accurate, defensible documentation.
  • Work ethic — we outwork the file until you're made whole.

What sets us apart

We pair licensed, credentialed expertise with genuine accessibility. Your matter is handled directly by one of our experienced public adjusters or appraisers — never a call center — and documented to a standard that holds up under scrutiny. Whoever on our team is assigned to your file, the standard never changes: we treat your loss with the urgency it deserves. From a Baltimore rowhome to a multi-state commercial portfolio, that doesn't change.

Service · Public Adjusting

A licensed advocate for the policyholder.

A public adjuster works exclusively for you — never the insurance company. We manage your property damage claim end to end so it's documented thoroughly, valued correctly, and settled fairly.

What a public adjuster does

There are three kinds of adjusters. Company adjusters and independent adjusters both work for the insurer. A public adjuster is the only one who works for you. We level the playing field.

  • Review your policy and identify all available coverage
  • Inspect, photograph, and measure the full extent of damage
  • Prepare a detailed, itemized estimate and scope of loss
  • Manage paperwork, deadlines, and carrier communication
  • Negotiate the settlement on your behalf

Losses we handle

Residential and commercial property claims, including damage from storms and wind, water and flooding, fire and smoke, hail, hurricanes, burst pipes, vandalism, and business interruption. If you've received a denial, a lowball offer, or a stalled claim, we can review it.

When to call a public adjuster

The earlier the better — ideally before you accept any offer. But it's never too late: we can step in on a new loss, a claim in progress, an underpaid settlement, or a denial. The first review is always free.

FAQ

Common questions

How do public adjusters get paid?
Public adjusters typically work on a contingency fee — a percentage of the settlement we recover — so our incentives are aligned with yours. Fees are regulated by each state. We'll explain the exact terms before you sign anything.
Will using a public adjuster slow down my claim?
Usually the opposite. By submitting complete, well-documented claims and handling carrier communication promptly, we often reduce back-and-forth and keep the file moving.
Can you help with a claim that was already denied or underpaid?
Yes. Many of our claims are reopened denials or underpayments. We'll review the documentation and policy to determine whether the claim can be supplemented or reconsidered.
Do I still need my insurance company?
Absolutely — your policy is the source of your coverage. We simply make sure the claim under that policy is presented and valued correctly so the carrier pays what's owed.
Service · Insurance Appraisal

Resolve disputes over the amount of loss.

Most property policies contain an appraisal clause — a contractual way to settle a disagreement about how much a loss is worth, without going to court. We serve as a party-appointed appraiser, or as a neutral, impartial umpire.

Hyperion accepts appraisal and umpire appointments from policyholders and insurance carriers alike. As a party-appointed appraiser, we advocate for an accurate valuation of the loss; as an umpire, we are strictly impartial — conflict-free and bound only to the correct number. Either way, our work is credentialed, well-documented, and defensible.

How the appraisal process works

When both parties agree a covered loss occurred but disagree on the amount, either side can invoke appraisal. Each party selects a competent, independent appraiser. The two appraisers then select a neutral umpire. An agreement by any two of the three sets the amount of loss — binding and efficient.

  • You appoint your appraiser; the insurer appoints theirs
  • The appraisers agree on a neutral umpire
  • Each prepares an independent valuation of the loss
  • An award signed by any two parties resolves the amount

Our role

We can act as your appraiser — advocating for a complete, accurate valuation of your loss — or as a neutral umpire trusted by both sides to render an impartial, well-reasoned decision. In both roles we bring rigorous documentation, construction and valuation knowledge, and a reputation for fairness.

Why appraisal instead of litigation

Appraisal is typically faster, less expensive, and less adversarial than a lawsuit. It keeps the dispute focused on the numbers and gets the policyholder to resolution sooner.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the appraisal award binding?
Generally yes — an award signed by any two of the three (the two appraisers and the umpire) sets the amount of loss under the policy. Coverage questions, however, are usually decided separately.
What's the difference between appraisal and public adjusting?
Public adjusting manages your whole claim and negotiates with the insurer. Appraisal is a specific dispute-resolution process invoked when the two sides can't agree on the amount of loss. We offer both.
Can appraisal decide whether something is covered?
Appraisal determines the amount of loss, not coverage. Whether a loss is covered is a legal/policy question handled outside the appraisal panel, though the line can vary by state and policy.
Do you serve as a neutral umpire?
Yes. We're frequently appointed as an impartial umpire. In that role we have no allegiance to either party — only to an accurate, defensible determination of the loss.
